The Nigeria Medical Association, Anambra State Branch has honoured the Managing Director/CEO of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, Dr Simeon Onyemaechi for his “Outstanding Contributions To Medical Services” during their annual general meeting which was held on the 22nd July, 2023 at Hilton Leisure Hotel, Awka.

The annual general meeting cum scientific conference of the medical association had several speakers talk on the theme: “Why Young Doctors are Migrating”.

In his remarks, the national President of Nigeria Medical Association, Dr Uche Rowland Ojinmah advised young doctors to always persevere and do the right thing. He noted that when people do the right thing, at the end of the day they would overcome challenges and achieve milestones. According to him, “Arrogance is offensive, Pride motivates”. He urged the doctors to be humble and respectful at all times.

For the ASHIA MD, Dr Simeon Onyemaechi while receiving the award thanked the  President of NMA, Dr Uche Rowland Ojinmah, the Secretary General of NMA, Dr Jide Onyekwerre, the Chairman of NMA Anambra State Branch, Dr Jane Ezeonu and other members present for the honour done him. He used the opportunity to admonish the young doctors to see health insurance as a sustainable and reliable source of paying for helathcare which they should encourage in their future practice. He insists that patients with health insurance do not owe physicians. Hence, encouraging enrolment into health insurance would give physicians peace of mind as it will end the era of patients who cannot pay medical bills.He dedicated the award to his team for all their efforts and contributions to the agency and equally advised the young doctors to think twice before migrating as all hands are needed to fix the Nigeria health system. Dr Onyemaechi concluded that “you can’t be a king in another man’s kingdom” and “there is more respect and dignity working as a Nigerian doctor in Nigeria”, he admonished.
