The Managing Director (MD), of Anambra State Health Insurance Agency ( ASHIA), Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi has sensitized the management of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) on the Tertiary Institution Social Health Insurance Program (TISHIP) which is set to commence next academic session.
Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi stated that ‘’the new National Health Insurance Authority Act (NHIA) 2022, conforms with the provisions of Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme law 2016 which makes Health Insurance compulsory for every resident of the State”.
He noted that sequel to the directive of Anambra State Executive Council, ASHIA in partnership with Integrated Health Care Ltd (Third Party Administrator) proposes to insure students of COOU at a premium of Four Thousand (4,000.00) Naira per student per academic session.
Dr. Onyemaechi said this while in a meeting with the Vice-Chancellor (VC), COOU, Prof. Kate Omenugha, and members of the School management at COOU, Igbariam campus.
He disclosed that ASHIA in partnership with Integrated Healthcare (IHC) will ensure that students who are outside the school premises on vacation can access care in National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) accredited hospitals anywhere in the country using their ID cards.
According to him ‘’Our goal is to ensure that the students stay healthy while on campus as well as of campus and as such, ASHIA is committed to providing quality health care services to them throughout their program in COOU”.
Speaking on behalf of the school management, the VC, Prof Kate Omenugha lauded the work of ASHIA in ensuring that Anambra residents are given adequate healthcare at an affordable price.
She noted her approval of the TISHIP initiative which she said will help greatly in reducing the financial burden of accessing care on the part of the students.
The VC said that the necessary things needed to implement the program will be put in place before the commencement of the program in the next academic year.
