No fewer than 100 indigenes of Umunnoke village,Awka in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State have been enrolled into the State health insurance Agency (ASHIA) by Tabitha wheel foundation through the adoption model strategy that allows well meaning individuals to enroll their relatives and friends by paying the annual premium.
Mrs Uche Nwagbo , founder of the foundation said that the gesture is geared towards giving back to her community, she noted the importance of regular health checkup which she said would help to diagnose or prevent some illness before it manifest hence the need to enroll her people into the Health Scheme.
She noted that “now our people will have no reason not to access quality care at the hospital, I want to eradicate self medication, if you are sick visit the hospital for professional treatment.
Rev. Fr Patrick Okafor, the coordinator of the enrollment exercise, emphasized Mrs Uche’s commitment to improving the quality of life of the people of Umunnoke.
He said that it was his dream and vision that the indigent people of the community enjoy access to quality healthcare at little or no cost therefore encouraged them not to discard their ID cards but to use it for the purpose it’s meant for.
Speaking on behalf of Dr Simeon Onyemaechi, the Managing Director of ASHIA, Mrs Anthonia Okoli sensitized the villagers on the benefits of health insurance as it helps save cost of hospital bills and also ensures quality healthcare treatment to the enrollees. She appealed to the beneficiaries to make use of the chosen health facility and access quality treatment.
Mrs Obigeli Nwankwo, a newly enrolled beneficiary expressed gratitude for Mrs Uche’s benevolence and expressed excitement that the high cost of hospital bills will be drastically reduced.
