Over fifty (50) persons living with sickle sell disorder in Anambra State, have been adopted into the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme (ASHIS) by the State government as part of events marking the second year anniversary of the Solution government.
The Managing Director of Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA), Dr Simeon Onyemaechi in his speech stated that the initiative is in line with the pro-poor and vulnerable stance of the Solution government of Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR. He said this initiative of the state government is a strong commitment to shouldering the financial burden associated with managing the health challenges of the sickle cell patients.
Dr. Onyemaechi who was represented by Mrs Tonia Okoli, enlightened the beneficiaries on the importance of regular checkups especially now that they have health insurance.
She said this during the free health insurance registration at Sickle Cell orphanage home in Agulu.
The Director, Sickle cell orphanage and underprivileged home Agulu, Mrs. Aisha Edward Maduagwu, appreciated the State government for the goodwill towards sickle cell patients.
She recalled that the Agency earlier this year insured 20 kids living with sickle cell and have now added more, she appreciated them for the magnanimity towards their special needs.
She also appreciated the State Government for sustainability of the Scheme and pleads that more attention be paid to people living with sickle cell as they need assistance to keep living.
