More than 250 indigenes of Nnokwa community in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State have been enrolled into the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme through the Adoption Model. The model allows philanthropists and well-meaning individuals to pay insurance premiums for others, especially the vulnerable.
The enrollment exercise, which took place on the 27th of April, 2025, at the Nnokwa Civic Center, was sponsored by a collective effort of notable sons, philanthropists, and stakeholders of the community.
Speaking at the event, the Mayor of Idemili South LGA, Lady Amaka Obi, described the initiative as a step in the right direction. She said it aligns perfectly with Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of making healthcare affordable and accessible to all Ndi Anambra. She thanked the stakeholders for coming together to ensure that more people in the community can now access healthcare without worrying about the cost.
The Spokesperson and Councillor representing Nnokwa, Hon. Valentine Mbadugha, said the enrollment exercise was all about making sure that healthcare is accessible to everyone, anytime and for whatever reason. He appreciated the stakeholders for their support and encouraged the enrollees to make good use of the opportunity.
Representing the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA), Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi, Mr. Izuchukwu Ogbaji advised the beneficiaries to prioritize their health and take full advantage of their insurance coverage. He stressed that having health insurance is not just about treating illnesses when they arise, but also about giving families peace of mind, promoting preventive healthcare, and reducing the financial burden of medical emergencies. Ogbaji reminded them that “Aru ike bu aku” — health is wealth — and encouraged the community to embrace health insurance as a way of securing a healthier, more stable future for themselves and their loved ones.
Present at the event are the Mayor of Idemili South, Hon. Amaka Obi; the Spokesperson, Councillor Hon. Val Ifeanyi Mbadugha; the Vice Mayor, Hon.
